Mac Tonight was a mascot introduced by McDonald's in the 80s to promote eating dinner at McDonald's. McDonald's had built a Mac Tonight animatronic at some McDonald's locations in America. One was singing with three animatronic chickens, and one right now, to this day, is in the world's largest McDonald's. Mac Tonight was a mascot introduced by McDonald's restaurants in 1986. The only McDonald's advertising character not to appear in McDonaldland commercials, he was intended to advertise McDonald's late night hours to adults. He had a crescent moon for a head, wore a suit and sunglasses, and was depicted as being a jazzy lounge singer. The name was a play on words of the song 'Mack the Knife. Ditto. Back in preschool, the teacher actually gave all of us Mac Tonight toys for free at the end of class on a Friday afternoon. Come to think of it, she always put McDonald's Happy Meal toys in our cubbies for us to take home usually at the end of every week.

McDonald's used to have great commercials. The kind you could connect to. Their commercial use to make you want to go McDonald's for Breakfast, lunch AND dinner. Not anymore. Sad.

Yes I quite liked that ad. I also had some plastic cups with him printed on it. Those el cheapo ones where it slowly scratches off over time.

Despite the bad press on this site, I LOVE THAT COMMERCIAL. I have been looking for that commerercial everywhere. To me that was the 80's. I must have been six years old when that came out. And for the longest time i had a recorded tape with the first ghostbusters on it. And that commercial was on it a couple of times. I lost that tape and that commercial. But there it is. Its from my childhood. I Love it.

Some McD's franchises have or had an animatronic Mac Tonight play piano.
I thought I saw a burger that looked like a Whopper in this ad.
FOR SOME REASON THIS COMMERCIAL REMINDS ME OF MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. I GUESS THEY MUST OF PLAYED IT DURING THE COMMERCIAL BREAKS. THE HUMAN BRAIN IS CRAZY. CERTAIN THINGS JOG CERTAIN MEMORIES.
Who could ever forget that moon for 'Mac Tonight' Comercials,it was like a trend that went away fast yet there was some costumes for that moon man, and I think they are very limited. Too bad some of the young ones have not seen or heard this comercial, I have a roomate who is 10 years younger, and he knew nothing about this comercial
